Facebook and twitter my two new revels


what else can I say about them. The whole day I am sitting with my team and they are more into updating their current mood in facebook and adding their voice in twitter.
Being the new entry in this block, managerial arena, I am wondering how me or any one can make them more interesting in attending the calls coming in or the critcal outage call going on.
The more I think about the influence of the social networking sites, the more I am understanding how they work on the brains and thoughts of these team and slowly realizing that I won't be able to ban them or make them move out that and get into their work.

From whatever I learnt I found the following measures useful with Gen Y over the use of social networking sites

1. Recognize their presence and be one amoung them.
Having a profile and having the team in your contacts will help them respect you and will make you able to see the common trend of feeling running underground.
2. Urging the team to keep time limit in accessing the site.
Until and unless there is no rigid policy organization wide in blocking the site, the best you can do is to urge the team to limit the time they spend in these sites and giving them time management tips on how better they can manage their interest as well as business interest.
